What to expect

Open hill scenery and views across the surrounding valleys when the weather allows. Decide on your walk using a suitable map and current local information.

Where to start your visit

Mam Nick is a starting area for visiting Mam Tor. This guide does not prescribe a route from the car park or a circular return.

Parking

Mam Nick has designated parking, but spaces can be limited. Check payment arrangements and restrictions on arrival. If it is full, use another designated car park and reassess your plans.

Underfoot

Hill walking can involve steep climbs, steps and uneven surfaces. The exposed ground can feel very different in wind, rain or poor visibility. Choose a walk that suits your experience and the forecast.

Make a day of it

Make Castleton a separate stop before or after your time on the hill. Explore the village and choose somewhere for a meal or a brew.

Useful to know

Keep dogs under control around livestock and follow local lead requirements. Plan your facilities stop in advance rather than relying on facilities at the hill.
